Go Ahead & Doubt
Doubting yourself is ok. Letting it stop you is not.
I have been in a leadership role in my career for just over 15 years. I’ve had 16 different direct supervisors and over 150 managing direct reports during that time. I’ve led countless conference calls, video calls, meetings, huddles, rallies, and training events. I have zero issues or concerns about getting in front of a crowd and owning the room. I confess that I even love and enjoy those pressure moments where everything you say and do gets magnified. I have never had more confidence in my abilities and what it is that I can do.
And I doubt myself. Every. Day.
Every day when I go to hit “publish” or “post” on something that I share here or on any social media outlet, the chorus of doubt is right there singing it’s song of dismay right up until I hit the damn button.
“Who cares about what you have to say, Geoff?”
“Who are you to try to impact someone else’s leadership and life?”
I’ve really come to be ok with those doubts. They fuel me now. The doubts I have test me and push me to be better. They are my own personal measuring stick. Whatever it is that I do, I want to be able to answer my doubts with confidence that THIS is me, offering up THE BEST that I have.
So go ahead and doubt yourself. Use that doubt to motivate you to a higher level of whatever it is that you do Allow it to make you question why you do what you do - and then get to work on silencing those doubts.
Just don’t you dare let it stop you.
